Jaripeo offers a rare, nuanced exploration of queer identity within the deeply traditional world of hypermasculine Mexican rodeos. Set against the backdrop of rural Michoacán, the film captures the eclectic lives of rancheros living at the intersection of rigid cowboy masculinity and subversively queer subcultures. Lensed beautifully on Super 8, Jaripeo is the feature directorial debut of Efraín Mojica and Rebecca Zweig.
