The Center for the Arts is a collective organization for visual and performing arts at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, ArtPlay Community Education, UAB Arts in Medicine and the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts provide the community with challenging and thoughtful experiences through free and fee-based events invoking a sense of creativity in all.
At the volunteer session, meet and mingle with dedicated volunteers, meet the house staff, and learn about volunteer roles, such as ushers for concerts and events. AIM and ArtPlay staff will share insight on their work. Attendees can also:
Tour the Alys Stephens Center
Learn more about AEIVA, Arts in Medicine and ArtPlay
Hear tips on how to create a welcoming experience
Access KultureCity sensory-inclusive training
Learn more about fire and severe weather safety routes
“Volunteer work makes a positive difference in how our patrons feel,” said Summer Guffey, senior house coordinator for the UAB Center for the Arts. “From the generous smiles of our ushers to the talented musicians who engage with hospital attendees, volunteers make up the soul of what we do.”
Additionally, volunteering with the ASC comes with rewarding perks, including:
Engaging with audiences from a wide variety of shows and events
Attending ASC Presents, Department of Theatre and Department of Music events free of charge
Meeting arts-oriented people and being part of the campus arts community
End-of-season celebratory reception for regular volunteers
The Center for the Arts volunteer training session is free and open to the public. Read more about volunteering at Center for the Arts and apply. Call 205-975-2787 for more information.
